Dear Body…

Dear Body,

Thank you.

Thank you for all the fun times you’ve let me have. Thank you for all the memories you’ve helped me make. Thank you for all the life you’ve let me live.

You are amazing. All day, every day you get me to class, help me learn, give friends hugs.

Yesterday, you let me run five miles with a friend, then go dancing.

Today, you drove me to work, walked me inside and allowed me to smile and help our customers. Then drove me home, walked me inside, prepared supper and fellowship with friends.

You’ve taken a lot from me. For no good reason.

I’m sorry for all the negative comments.
I’m sorry for ignoring you.
I’m sorry for never having faith in you; never realizing you knew what you needed when you needed it. Always thinking I knew best, never stopping to wonder what you wanted, what you needed. Whether that was a day off of running, or one more helping of spaghetti.

I’m sorry for never respecting you the way you are. For thinking you weren’t tall enough, short enough, long enough, lean enough. I was wrong. You are perfect just the way you are; not in the same way so and so’s body is perfect. In the way you are perfect, perfectly unique.

You are worthy of love. You are worthy of respect. You are worthy of nourishment.

I’m sorry for all the times I have worked against you. We can do great things together, I know we can. I promise to listen to you better, to really listen.

I’m sorry I haven’t always taken good care of you. You are my responsibility and I let you down. I’m sorry for getting mad at you when you didn’t do what I wanted – that wasn’t your fault, you were trying your best.

I respect the fact that you are different from so and so’s body and need different attention. You may need more activity one day, less another… extra protein tomorrow and more fats the day after that. I understand that. I will honor that. Because I honor you. And more importantly, I honor the One who created you.

Created you with me in mind. My dreams, my desires, my talents. Created you and I to work perfectly together, not against one another. You are not my enemy, nor am I yours. We are in this together. We are here to change this broken world for the better.

Your very sorry keeper
